One number, printed on the bottle

Northline makes hair care. Every product we make carries a weight rating from 0 to 5, printed on the bottle and stated on every page, for how much a single application leaves behind on the strand.

The hair aisle has one word for everything: weightless. It is on the oil, the cream, the mask and the styling paste, and it is doing no work at all, because a product that is genuinely weightless on coarse hair will still flatten fine hair by the afternoon. The word is not a lie so much as an answer to the wrong question.

The right question is how much is left on the strand, and how much your particular hair can carry before it stops looking like hair and starts looking like product. So we put a number on the first half and published a ceiling for the second, and the two together are the entire proposition.

The number is a cost, not a score. A 5 is not stronger or better than a 1 — the Bond Repair Serum does the most structural work in this catalog and sits at 1 because it is mostly water. 15 of our 20 single products sit at 2 or under, which is the band fine hair should live in, and that is a deliberate shape rather than an accident of formulation.

What we will not claim

Northline sells cosmetics. Our products change how hair looks, feels and behaves — shine, slip, less visible frizz, hair that feels firmer and combs without tearing. That is the whole claim.

We do not sell anything that regrows hair, treats hair loss, blocks a hormone, or is a remedy for a scalp condition. Those are drug claims. A hair shop that makes them casually in its marketing copy is telling you something about how carefully it wrote the rest of the page, and the scale we built would mean nothing coming from a shop like that.

The scale itself is ours and we made it up. It is a shared unit invented so that products in one catalog can be compared honestly against each other. It is not a medical standard, it is not an industry standard, and it does not transfer to anyone else’s shelf.

There are no star ratings, no review counts and no testimonials anywhere on this site. Not because we do not want them — because this shop is new, and a page claiming thousands of reviews on a domain registered this year is a contradiction anyone can check in one lookup. When there are real reviews from real customers, they will go up with their real numbers attached.

How the catalog is built

Every product page
Full INCI ingredient list in descending order, fill size, net weight, texture, where it is made, how to use it, how often, and a cautions block.
The cautions block
Who a product is not for, what it does to fine or colour-treated hair, and what not to layer it with. It is the block most brands leave out and the one that stops the most returns.
Made
Formulated and filled in the United States.
Fragrance
Nothing in the catalog carries added fragrance. Where a formula smells of something, it is the ingredients themselves.
Subscriptions
There are none. Routines are boxes you buy once. Nothing on this site enrols you in a recurring charge, and nothing will without that being the thing you are buying.
On your statement
Charges appear as NORTHLINE.
